Importance of Using Moisturizers In Your Skin Care Routine

Monday, April 28th, 2008

By Shirley Peel Moisturizers - An Important Ingredient In Your Daily Skin Care Routine If you have dry skin or maybe winter has left your skin itchy, dry and flaky, a moisturizer can help. As you probably know, the top layer of skin is dead, and the layers below supply it with the moisture — water, oils and salt — that it needs. Moisture is constantly lost through evaporation even under the best conditions. When you bring in winter winds, low humidity, and dry indoor heat the skin’s water loss is greatly increased. That is why moisturizers applied to the skin play such an important role. There are two types of moisturizers: Emollients - These work very much like your skin’s natural oils by forming an oily barrier on the skin’s surface that seals in some of the moisture and blocks evaporation.Humectants - These attract and hold water on your skin’s surface. Which moisturizer is best for you depends on your skin type, and the ingredients in the moisturizer. And, most times, it has very little to do with expense. It’s a choice that you make after evaluating all factors. In fact, there have been studies which concluded the most effective moisturizers were the least expensive ones. One thing to consider is this: the simpler, the better. The more ingredients in a moisturizer you use on your skin, such as, perfumes, emulsifiers, coloring, thickeners, etc., the greater the chance you will have some kind of allergic reaction if your skin is sensitive. Preserve Your Skin’s Moisture - Tips and Suggestions Use warm water as opposed to hot for bathing or showering, and limit the time spent to 10 to 15 minutes a day. Use mild soaps which you dilute with water before applying to your skin. Excessive bathing, especially in hot water, and the use of strong soaps wash away the natural oils that are there to help keep water in the skin. If you bathe rather than shower, use a little bath oil in the water.Apply a moisturizer to the skin all over your body immediately after bathing or showering. In this way, the skin’s moisture is sealed in. Apply light films of moisturizer rather than one heavy coating.Dry hand thoroughly after washing. Apply a good hand cream.Give elbows and knees special attention during winter months. Exfoliate gently with a natural luffa sponge, and apply a moisturing cream.Always wear gloves in cold weather to limit the evaporation of moisture from your hands. In cold weather, cover your face with a scarf or possibly a ski mask.Protect lips with a lip balm when out in the winter months. Avoid licking them which causes chapping and cracking.Eat a nourishing, well-balanced diet for your inner as well as outer health.Drink 8-10 glasses a water a day. Drinking adequate water on a daily basis is also important for glowing, healthy, moisturized skin. About the Author: S.J. Peel, webmaster. It’s Not Your Father’s Climbing Frame!

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

By Ian Wide When I was growing up, the metal jungle gym in our backyard made ours the most popular play spot in the neighbourhood. Built of tubular steel in bright orange and yellow, it was a honeycombed hexagon that provided days of climbing, swinging and acrobatic fun. These days, the jungle gym is called a climbing frame, and it may be made of wood, metal or plastic, but the fun factor remains the same. If you have young children, a climbing frame in the back yard or garden can offer hours upon hours of fun recreation and activity. Climbing frames come in a wide variety of sizes and configurations, and most are customizable with add-ons and accessories. You can start with a simple ladder type climbing frame and add accessories like platforms, ladders, rope climbers, tents, rope bridges and more. One easy way to classify climbing frames is by materials used. Wooden climbing frames are generally more expensive than either plastic or metal framed climbers. Made of pressure-treated lumber, they use galvanized screws for fastening and often include enclosures, platforms and rope climbing ladders. Wooden climbing frames can last a lifetime if properly cared for, and be used by generation after generation of children. Popular additions to wooden climbing frames are canopies, swings, rope climbers and platforms. Perhaps you recall the swing sets of your childhood - tubular metal in bright colors with swings and a slide, and perhaps a glider. Todays metal climbing frames are the next generation. The product of increased safety awareness and health studies, they’re designed with fun AND safety in mind. They often include horizontal ladders for climbing and swinging, slides, and bars for more intricate feats of balance and swinging. They’re the closest to the old monkey bars and jungle gyms that we all grew up with. Made popular by such manufacturers as Playskool and Little Tikes, plastic climbing frames are made of high impact, sturdy plastic that can withstand weather and rugged use. Bright colors, rounded corners and clever designs make plastic climbing frames the perfect choice for toddlers and small children. Generally closer to the ground, it often features holes and tunnels for crawling and climbing, broad-based support for safety and slides with rounded rails to prevent tumbles. Finally, there are hybrids - metal frames with wooden structures or plastic components like crawling tunnels and climbing walls. These are most often found in public playgrounds, but there are some available to build in your backyard. They may be based on a metal frame with a wooden structure or canvas tent, or have a plastic crawling/climbing tube up to a wooden platform. Considerations when buying a climbing frame for your back yard or garden include the age of the children, the amount of use it will get, aesthetic considerations and safety features. A well-constructed climbing frame, whatever the material, is one of the best investments you can make for your family’s recreation needs. Ian Wide has contributed many articles on home and family sites including pieces on climbing frames. How To Fish A Lake More Efficiently And Achieve Better Success

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

By Jeff Bausch START CATCHING FISH USING THE STRUCTURE ELIMINATION SYSTEM!!Simply put this System is a systematic elimination of the various structures that exist in all lakes.First of all, this system is not for the lazy man! It involves a continuous process of moving around the lake in set time periods. You will need basic equipment to get started. First you will need three rods in the boat (most of you have two with you anyway). What kind of rods? We’ll leave that to your discretion. It all depends what you are fishing for. Usually, we recommend two medium-light rods and one medium-heavy rod: this allows you to handle all species of fish and ALL sizes!Once equipped with three rods, the next important step is in picking the baits to attach to them. ON THE FIRST ROD - we’ll attach a jig or a Booyah Spinner bait. As far as color is concerned, use the age-old fishing rule: Light day light color; dark day dark color. Obviously, this can all vary depending on what part of the country you’re fishing in. ON THE SECOND ROD - we’ll attach a bottom rig (like the Lindy Rig) or any rig that you can attach some live bait to. Maybe a bobber or float depending on the depth of the structure you are fishing or if you are close to a weedbed and you want to stay in a certain spot and depth. ON THE THIRD ROD - we’ll attach an artificial bait, of your choice, although we suggest that you stick to those artificials that are known for their fish-catching effectiveness… Rapala, Rebel, Bomber Baits, Booyah Baits etc. Also keep in mind, ask what works on that particular lake at the bait shop you will probably go to. Especially if you dont know the lake very well. Even if you do, you will probably ask anyway. On the first rod, you have an option - the jig can either be fished as is or combined with live bait: Nightcrawlers in the summer and Minnows in the spring and fall. You can use other live baits, too, depending on the species and size of fish you are after. On the second rod, you do not have an option -the bottom rig must be fished in combination with live bait. Again, we strongly suggest crawlers (Summer) and minnows (Spring and Fall) the majority of the time and also depending on what part of the country you are in. Here’s how it works…. your first few minutes on the lake are spent observing the surrounding water and shorelines. Utilizing a lake map is also a handy tool to identify and plan where to start fishing. YOU ARE LOOKING FOR STRUCTURE!! You notice a patch of reeds. That’s a starting point. You motor over and begin with the three rod process of elimination. You are working within a 30-minute time period. In other words, in 30 minutes, using the live and artificial bait combinations on the three rods, you are to fully cover that structure in an effort to determine if fish are present. Believe this, through a fan casting or drifting or trolling procedure, you will learn quickly if there is any action to be had.REMEMBER THIS…. fish are migratory creatures. They seldom stay in one place for more than a few minutes: if you’re lucky, 20 to 30 minutes. They DO move from spot to spot. So, even if you are fishing a known hotspot or one that seems potentially productive, DON’T be surprised if there is no action to be had. And by using the three bait approach with a 30-minute period to establish contact, you WILL KNOW if they are or are not there! So what do you do if, after 30 minutes, that patch of reeds produces nothing? YOU MOVE ON! To another structure. No, it doesn’t matter. There never has been a time when catching fish was really difficult…there are certain rules of fishing that, when applied consistently, will never fail to yield limits of fish, no matter the species. If a fisherman does fail, then it is not the supposedly wily, wary, and mysterious fish that causes all the problems; but rather, the fisherman himself who probably lacks the very basic knowledge about fish, their habits and habitats. Weather systems also affect fishing. Understanding high pressure systems are better for fishing as opposed to low pressure systems. With the Structure Elimination System, a fisherman does not have to be a modern day fishing genius to be successful. Not by a long shot! Let’s face it, with organizations popping up all over the place, extolling the joys of scientific fishing, well, it’s no small wonder that a good many average fishermen are beginning to feel left out in the race for fishing limits and lunkers. It’s almost as if these so-called scientists are trying to convince the world that their way is the only way to ensure success in fishing. But consider this long before these super pros came along, there were men who did catch fish consistently. Using the same basic rules of fishing that has been responsible for fishing success. Using the Structure Elimination System, you get back to these basics and reap tremendous rewards as a result.what type of structure - JUST STRUCTURE!And, once again, you begin the 30-minute elimination method using the different bait presentations. That IS the Structure Elimination System. It’s simple. It’s effective. It works! On the average, in an 8 to 10 hour fishing day, most guys will never hit more that four or five spots, if that. Using our system, you can hit 15 to 20 spots a day!The key though is your willingness to stick faithfully to the plan, the continuous moving-from-spot-to-spot process. If you do that, then you WILL be successful using this system of catching fish. Myfishinggoods.com - Freshwater fishing equipment and fishing articles that will help you catch more fish. Used Car Loans - 3 Tips For Financing Your Used Vehicle Online

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Carrie_Reeder]Carrie Reeder Financing the purchase of a used vehicle can be done through the convenience of online car loan lenders. Through their websites you can request quotes, compare terms, and even apply online. Online car loan lenders save you time and money by making financing shopping easy. The following three tips will ensure that you find the best financing for your vehicle purchase. 1. Request Quotes It is easy to compare rates online, but you really need to request quotes to do real comparison. You should compare car loans much like a mortgage. A difference as little as $17.00 a month can save you over $1000 on a 60 month loan. Some lenders charge fees, so watch for those. Sometimes small fees up front will save you money through lower interest payments over the course of your loan. To find low rates consider using a car loan broker. They work with several different lenders to bring you multiple offers to choose from. You can also request quotes from individual lender websites. With either type of site, you will receive your quote instantly, enabling you to make a quick comparison. 2. Compare Terms It is equally important to the compare terms of your car loan. The longer loan term you choose, the more you will pay in interest. However, longer loans also have smaller monthly payments. You will also want to look at fees that may be associated with early repayment or late payments. Another factor to consider is increasing your down payment to 20% of the vehicles value. In some cases, this can qualify you for a lower rate. 3. Get Prequalified To gain added leverage in you car purchase get prequalified for you car loan. By being prequalified, you get a blank check by FedEx to go shopping with. You can use it to purchase a vehicle from a dealership or individual. In either case, you have the advantage as a cash buyer. There is no question about your credit history, so there is the incentive for the seller to close the deal. Take this advantage by negotiating a lower price. Costume Contact Lenses - Be Noticed in the Crowd!

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

By Tanya Turner Costume contacts have always been a favorite tool of movie costume designers. What makes a werewolf appear like a real monster and not just an actor in a costume? The eyes, of course! The eyes make the entire image seem real and very believable. But the days when theatrical lenses were available only to movie stars are long gone. Now everybody can get a pair of costume contacts that makes their eyes appear bright and inhuman. The only limit is your imagination. Many people think of theatrical contact lenses only at Halloween time. But there is no reason why you cant wear them just for going out to the club. If your eyes look like you just came back from Dune, you can be sure that your appearance wont go unnoticed. What are my choices? There are many costume lenses on the market; the most popular brands are Crazy Lenses, by Cooper Vision, and Wild Eyes, by CibaVision. Both Crazy Lenses and WildEyes offer bright, exciting designs. Their lenses are also comfortable and affordable. If you type costume contact lenses into a Google or Yahoo search, many different collections will show up. Some of them offer a great look for a reasonable price. However, you should always bear in mind that most paints are toxic; so some of the lenses on offer might seem beautiful, but the could also irritate your eyes. It is always best to go with costume contacts produced by major contact lens manufacturers. And for a particularly magnificent effect, you can get scleral contacts. Unlike ordinary color contact lenses, sclerals cover not only the colored part of your eye, but the entire visible portion of your eye. Sclerals create a knock-out effect. The only draw back with scleral contacts is that they are awfully expensive. You can also get custom-made costume lenses. This way, you can be sure that nobody would have eyes like yours, and you can have any design imaginable. You can see pictures and reviews of different costume contact lens collections at www.1-contact-lenses-consumer-guide.com/costume-contact-lenses.html Do I need a prescription for costume contact lenses? Most brand name costume contacts come in Plano (no vision correction) as well as with corrective powers. And whether or not you need visual correction, you should ask your eye doctor to fit costume lenses for you. Even if you have perfect vision, it is best to see an optometrist first. Can I see while wearing theatrical contacts? Yes, you can. Even though the lens is completely opaque, its center is clear so you can see. The only exceptions are white-out contacts, which create the effect of blind eyes. In this case, the entire lens is fully opaque so, unless you want to find out how it is to be blind, you should wear a white-out contact lens in one eye only. Are costume contacts safe? There are many FDA warnings about the dangers of costume lenses, although the lenses themselves are usually not to blame. Unfortunately, some people wear their costume contacts for several days straight, or put them in without washing their hands first, or swap the lenses with their friends, and then blame the theatrical contacts when they get an eye infection. The truth is that if you get reputable brand name costume lenses and take proper care of them, costume contacts are as safe as any other type of contact lens. Here are 5 simple rules, to keep costume contact lenses safe:Dont wear your costume contacts for longer than a few hoursDont swap them with other peopleOrder your lenses from your doctors office or a reputable online retailer. Contacts sold in costume shops or flea markets might be of questionable qualityHave an optometrist fit you with theatrical contactsClean your costume lenses properly How do I take care of my costume lenses? Novelty contact lenses dont require any special care; you simply treat them the same way as you would treat any contact lenses. All you need is a multi-purpose solution and a contact lens case, which you can get in any chemist shop. Rinse your lenses in the solution before inserting them in your eyes, and dont forget to wash your hands before handling the lenses. When youre not using your costume lenses, keep them in the solution, in their case. It is recommended that you change the solution at least once a week, if you dont use them for long periods of time. But who would bother? If you have to wear contacts that have spent a month or so in their case, just give them a double rinse in fresh solution. Healthy and Fit in 2006: Seven Steps to Keeping Those Fitness and Weight Loss Resolutions

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

By Christina Jennings Want to be fit in 2006? Here’s a really simple way to make your fitness and exercise goals a reality. Another year has come and gone. The New Year is upon us. Atime filled with fresh hope and anticipation. This year willbe better for me. I WILL lose ___lbs. I WILL exerciseregularly. I WILL eat healthy. I WILL …. Eventually the comforting voice of the past speaks out, “Ohsure. Just like every other year. Save yourself the painof failure. Just forget all that and have another cookie.” For some of us this voice speaks out sooner than for others. The excuses begin to trickle in, then they pour in likeflood waters and before you know it you have fallen off theresolution wagon. Let’s change things this year. Let’sresolve to be fit in 2006! Sounds great Christina but what’s going to make this yeardifferent? Well for one thing I believe you are finallyfed up enough with the way things have been, (otherwise youwouldn’t still be reading!). And for another thing you haveme now. I want to help guide you past the pain andfrustration and help you finally attain your fitness goals. An added bonus is that once you begin to see physicalresults, mental, emotional and sometimes even spiritualchanges begin to occur. You begin to change fat intomuscle, your clothes hang more loosely, you begin buyingsmaller sizes, you smile more often, your self confidencebuilds up, you begin tackling other tasks on your goal listand begin feeling more empowered. Can you see where thiscould take you? Ready for your journey?Let’s break it down step by step. 1. GOAL SETTING Set realistic, specific and achievable goals. Take smallsteps towards big success. 1-2lbs per week is what youshould expect to lose. Anything more will do more harm andcould have the reverse effect. Taking things slow will bedifficult because we want to lose the weight NOW. I know itseems as though we gained it overnight but we did not. Goals such as, ‘I will lose 5 inches in 30 days’ or, ‘I willexercise every morning this week’ are specific andattainable. Make goals daily, weekly, 30 day, 60 day…. Write your goals down and review them daily. 2. VISUALIZATIONS AND AFFIRMATIONS. These go along with your goals. Create a clear picture ofyourself having already achieved your goals. See yourselfin that size __ outfit. How do you feel? How are youwalking? Head high? Smiling? Picture every detail andburn it into your memory. Affirmations are more than simplepositive statements we make. Affirmations build up beliefin ourselves and belief is the key that gets our motorsrunning. Make affirmations in the present tense, positive, short, specific and personalized with your name. Write themdown and repeat them often with a lot of emotion and belief, visualizing as you say them. Some examples are: I love toexercise every day; I am in control of my eating; I haveabundant energy and vitality; I love myself; I derserve goodthings. 3. EAT HEALTHY. You are what you eat. Do not starve yourself. Your bodywill sense the lack of nutrition and go into storage modeslowing down your metabolism making it impossible to loseanything. Eat 5 to 6 small meals every day, no more thanthree hours apart. This allows your body to utilize morenutrients and speeds up your metabolism. It also keeps yourblood sugar levels stable thus reducing cravings. Eachportion should be no larger than your fist. To aid withthis change eat on smaller plates. Eat foods that are lowfat, high protein, and complex carbs such as brown rice, whole grains and lots of vegies. Drink at least 64ozs ofwater daily. Avoid fatty, sugary junk foods. Alcohol haslots of calories so try to avoid it. Get lots of fiber. This will keep you feeling full longer plus it will keep youregular. Take a multivitamin daily. A cheat day once in awhile, (i.e. every other Sunday), will not hurt. If youreally have the urge to eat bad for you foods during the dayask yourself, “Is this momentary pleasure worth risking allmy efforts? Aren’t I worth making lasting changes for andfinally reaching my goals?” The answer of course is, YES YOU ARE! 4. EXERCISE DAILY This is nonnegotiable. First thing in the morning is thebest time but no less than 2 hours after a meal. Alternateaerobics and strength training. Go for a 30-60 minute briskwalk every other day and work out with weights or resistancebands the next day for at least 30 minutes. Join a gym, hire a personal, get a friend involed. Whatever it takes tomake you move it daily! 5. CHANGE IT UP. Variety is the spice of life. It will keep you from burningout and giving up. Change your routine every 8-12 weeks. This will keep you working harder longer and keeps yourworkout fresh. 6. KEEP A JOURNAL. Write down all your hopes, dreams, doubts, successes andfailures. Keep your affirmations in it as well and readthem often. Keep track of what works and what doesn’t. Write down everything you’re feeling. Your journal can beyour best friend through this time. 7. NEVER GIVE UP. If you miss a workout or eat something that is not in yourmeal plan don’t completely throw in the towel. You areworth fighting for. Write in your journal why you were setback and keep moving forward. If you give up on exercise and healthy eating, you give upon yourself. Make this year different. Stand up toyourself, for yourself. No one can do it like you can! ———————————————————— Change is hard and should come gradual. This is going to bean uphill battle. Follw these steps to your success and seeyourself at the top, VICTORIOUS! These steps seem simple. This is the magic formula. Changenothing and nothing changes. Help is out there and not hardto find. The Environment and the Toilet

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By Glen Phillips In the case of plumbing products the buzz phrase is water efficiency, or how much water a particular faucet, shower, or toilet consumes every time it is used. Water restrictions, drought, availability of potable water, and waste are all increasingly important issues as consumers begin to demand plumbing products that reduce their homes overall operational cost, as well as its environmental footprint on the planet. Water meters or not, wasteful toilets mean a strain on municipal water supplies, which in turn mean additional costly infrastructure upgrades for municipalities, as well as pressure on hydro companies to provide additional water supply through new dams and hydro projects. These hydro projects not only have an impact on the natural environment, they also mean higher energy costs to consumers, as water and money are flushed literally down the toilet. Companies such as Toto and Porcher have tackled the issue of efficient plumbing, developing affordable highly efficient toilets that, unlike most traditional North American toilets, which consume 3.5 gallons (13.25 L) per flush, consume about 1.6 gallons (6.1 L) per flush a reduction of around fifty percent. If one considers the number of flushes per day per home, it equates to a significant savings in water consumption and strain on a city, town, or municipalitys water supply. Beyond reduced volume per flush, Toto also produces toilets with dual flush systems that allow the user to choose between a solid waste flush and a lower volume liquid waste flush an added benefit that further reduces consumption. For those with bigger budgets, Toto also has electronic seats, a nifty gadget that replaces toilet paper, hence reducing the quantity of solid waste. Currently these more sophisticated toys are available through FinestFixtures by special phone order only. He Loves Me - He Loves Me Not

Monday, April 7th, 2008

By Toni Coleman You had the most romantic date the other night. You went to a nice restaurant, where you laughed, held hands and shared good conversation. Afterwards, you went back to your place and enjoyed what seemed like a night of intimate connecting. It all felt so right and was a welcome relief after all the recent stress in your lives and your relationship. But it has been several days and he hasnt responded to your emails or phone calls. What is going on? This scenario replays frequently amongst the single and dating crowd and I receive a lot of email asking, What gives? The overwhelming number of people asking me this are female, but I do receive correspondence from confused guys as well. The short answer goes something like; I can understand why you are confused; he is giving you a mixed message by (not) saying one thing and doing another. It is this mixed communication that gives rise to so much angst and to all those emails asking me to translate and interpret so they can know what is REALLY being said and what to do about it. Becoming a good communicator requires many different skills that involve both speaking and listening. In order to truly hear someone, it is necessary to listen to not only what they say, but also what they dont say. Non-verbal body language communicates about 73% of every message that we send to another person. When you really think about it, words can really get in the way- if you let them. Anyone can learn to be a more effective communicator, but it does take patience, along with some focused and consistent effort. In order to help you get started, the following tips will provide you with some basic guidelines and tools to assist you when it feels as though you are speaking in different tongues. * Pay attention to your instincts and that little voice that alerts you to something being off. This feeling is usually brought about by subtle changes in behavior, tone of voice, level of physical contact, posture and eye contact and verbal sharing. Too often these go ignored and/or are written off as due to a bad day or stressful life events. While this is certainly possible, if the behavior change seems sudden or continues over a period of time- something has changed in your relationship. * Dont ignore a sudden and persistent change in frequency and/or quality in your communication. If you have been dating someone who usually emails once or twice a day and calls several times a week- and this suddenly drops to no contact for a couple of days, without explanation- something has shifted in your relationship. If these kinds of shifts occur slowly, make sense in the context of what is going on in his/her life and you have talked about them- there is probably no need to raise the alarm. If he suddenly announces that he will be very tied up for the next few weeks (as he rushes out the door) - and gives no real explanation for his unavailability- something is probably up. If this is coupled with body language that says, stay back,- he will probably be tied up a lot longer than two or three weeks. * If he is telling you how much he likes/loves you and how much hed like to see you- but never has time, due to other commitments- he doesnt really want to see you that much. We make time for the things we want to do and that are important to us. No matter how busy we are- we are never too busy to pursue the people and things we care about. * If she begins spending a lot of time on the computer, gets a lot of phone calls and goes into another room to answer, and/or has many unexplained absences from the usual routine and places- something is up. Again, look for a pattern of behavior. Everyone has an off day or a problem they may have difficulty sharing, however, the situation should not persist without a clear and logical explanation. If you find yourself in a relationship with someone who begins to demonstrate the above behaviors, it will be important to address it directly with them if you hope to get to the truth. A good way to do this is to point out the changes you have observed and ask an open-ended question such as, Is there something we need to talk about. If your significant other avoids, puts off or minimizes the issue after you have raised it for more than a few days, you may need to ask for a specific time that the two of you can sit down together and talk about what is going on. If this request is met with silence, this is also an answer- though not the one you want to hear. The key to handling communication problems such as these is to never ignore or try to explain away your feelings- and dont delay in addressing them, hoping they will disappear on their own.
