5 Interviewing Tips To Get That Job!

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

By Marie Roker Anyone who is a jobseeker knows that looking for a new job or career is a job in itself. Once you have completed the laborious task of writing your resume and submitting it to various companies, you now have to pass the screen test to get the job. Interviews are the gateway to landing your ideal job. These five tips will help you get own your way to making that job yours. Tip#1 Be Confident Your first impression is your only impression. Nothing is worse than a limp handshake, slumped shoulders, poor eye contact or poor communication skills. A potential employer can tell immediately if you are the man or woman for this job by your body language. Although aggressiveness is a turn-off, being passive gives the indication that you are not sure of yourself or your qualifications. Keep eye contact when answering questions or when the interviewer is speaking directly to you. Smile occasionally to show your interest and enthusiasm. Keeping a steady gaze on the interviewer can be disturbing to an interviewer. Look away occasionally. Lean forward to show that you are interested in what the interviewer is saying. Speak in a concise and clear voice. If you have problems annunciating certain words, dont try to use them on an interview. If this is difficult for you, practice with a mirror and pay attention to your facial expressions. Other interview killers: -Slouching in a chair -Crossing your arms -Playing with your hair or jewelry -Leaning back in chair Tip# 2 Act As If You are what you believe. Act as if you had the job. What would you do if you had this position? How would you act? How would a person in this position act and speak? What are your responsibilities in this position? What is a typical day like for you in this job? Change your attitude towards yourself and your strengths. If you start thinking that you wont get the job, you will do small unnoticeable things to sabotage your chances. Great free resources: www.confidenceworld.com. Tip#3 Know The Company Know your business. I once sat on a couple of interviews where the interviewees did not do any research on the company. This sends a message that you are looking for any job, not this specific job. Once youre interview is scheduled, get on the net and start finding out everything you can about the company. A good place to start is www.hoovers.com., which gives you industry information, top competitors, names of CEO, etc. If youd like to know what current or former employees have to say about the company, try www.wwetfeet.com. Beware of disgruntled postings. Call the company headquarters and ask for the marketing department to get specific information. Weave your research into the interview by stating. I read an article in the Wall Street Journal, which mentioned that your company is thinking about XYZ. This lets the interviewer know that you have taken the time to know more about the company. You can ask questions about something you read, but dont challenge them or youll come across as a know-it-all. Tip# 4 Be Prepared Know what to say. Most interviewers ask the same standard questions about your strengths, weaknesses, former employers, work history. If you are being interviewed by several people, this might be a good cop, bad cop situation. Pay attention to who is playing bad cop, they are looking for signs of weakness and dishonesty. To be well prepared, before the interview, write out all your accomplishments, both personal and professional. List your strengths and weaknesses. Be honest, its easier to remember the truth than it is a lie. Extra Tip: Write out situations in which you have demonstrated: leadership skills, determination, stress management, creativity, and flexibility. Be prepared to answer the question: Why do you want this job? If youre not sure, reevaluate your decision. If you arrive a few minutes early, review what you wrote in the waiting room before the interview. Great list of interview questions: Tested Interview Questions. Tip#5 Ask For The Job You get what you ask for. The most important step in the interviewing process is one most people miss. ASK FOR THE JOB! Most interviewers are waiting for that closure. If you have done everything exceptionally well during the interviewing process, but have not asked for the job, youve just wasted an interview. Asking for the job shows the potential employer that you are assertive, confident and right for the job. It might feel uncomfortable, but this is your only chance to ask for something you really want. Make sure your voice is firm and you make eye contact. Think of it as your closing argument, youve got to win over the jury. You should also ask the interviewer if he or she thinks you are right for the job. Even if they tell you something unpleasant, think of it as a lesson learned. However, do yourself a favor and ask for the job. You deserve it! Careers Working in Government

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By Lance Winslow If you are looking for a job in cannot find one then there is a government job ready for you. The government continually wastes taxpayers money and hires people needlessly to push around paper. Of course we all know the government paperwork reduction act is supposed to limit the amount of paperwork and trees we cut down, but that initiative is not going nowhere very fast as we all know. Therefore the government is hiring and spending more of our money to hire folks who do not deserve a job. If you do not deserve a job because you are lazy and have very poor work ethic you can get a job in our government. All your problems are solved you will never have to work hard again and you’ll always get a paycheck and then at the end of your career you’ll get benefits and a pension, which is guaranteed and backed by the federal government and the United States of America taxpayer. The good thing about a career in government is you can work your way up if you decide to become the head bureaucrat of some ridiculous government, agency which is of no value at all. Each time you move up they will give you more money for doing less work and pay you extra if you can waste more money each year and increase the budget of the bureaucracy. It is a perfect little system for people who do not want to work. For all those lazy folks out there who are looking for an easy way out and to do as little as possible, I recommend a good government job. A career in government can be very rewarding as you can screw off all day and do nothing, drink free coffee and make excuses as to why you didn’t get anything done. You can use your creative ability to design and conjure up better and better stories for your excuses and even figure out who to blame. When you reach the top of the bureaucracy and something goes wrong in the organization they will use you as a scapegoat and then you can re-sign and keep your pension. And to then you can blame everyone else and they can blame you and everybody wins. Then they will give a chance to another non-performing employee to take your place. It is the perfect system and the perfect place for employment. Please consider this in 2006; a job in our government is waiting for you. “Lance Winslow” - Online Think Tank forum board. Sort Out Your Financial Problems With Unsecured Loans

Monday, August 27th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Pranav_Das]Pranav Das The basic purpose of borrowing money is to fulfill ones financial requirements. Most of us fall in the need of money at some or other part of our lives and we are forced to take debt. Its a startling fact that its not only individuals that borrow money from financial institutions. Actually, the whole worlds economy is running on loans and borrowings. Big organisations like World Bank and IMF provide huge amount of loans to member countries. Besides, the central banks of different nations grant loans to smaller financial institutions, known as internal borrowings. But, on the micro economic level more and more individuals borrow money from different financial organisations. Especially in UK, it is found that there are an increasing number of individuals who borrow money to fulfill their various financial needs. It is also found that the borrowers are more inclined to take unsecured loans than secured loans. This is because they dont want to put their property at risk. Since an unsecured loan doesnt need collateral, the borrowers are at no risk while procuring such loans. They are free from the risk of repossession of their properties, which in most of the cases are their houses. This is why creditors take higher interest on unsecured loans compared to secured loans. UNSECURED LOANS are also beneficial for tenants, council tenants and those who live with their parents. Some of the advantages of unsecured loans are: Faster approval of loan No risk of repossession of property Less documentation work No valuation of property Suitable for those who want a short term loan [http://www.longdogfinance.co.uk/unsecured-loan.html]Unsecured loans can be used for a number of purposes such as buying a house, buying a car, home renovation, financing educational expenses, funding for marriage, buying a holiday package etc. An unsecured loan can be also be taken for the purpose of debt consolidation. You can consolidate all your previous debts into a single loan that would help you in saving a good amount of money as you have to pay a single lender with comparatively low interest rate rather than making several payments to different lenders with variable interest rates. If you have a bad credit history, you are facing the problem of Country Court Judgments or you have a lot of arrears due on you, you need not worry because there are lenders who provide unsecured loans to people like you. Though they might charge you a higher interest rate and keep strict vigil on your repayments, its better to go for an unsecured loan if you dont want to put your property at stake. By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Gagandeep_Dhaliwal]Gagandeep Dhaliwal Unsecured loans refer to personal loan where lenders cant claim on properties of borrowers if they dont repay the loan on time. Lenders lend them money on the basis of trust relationship. Lenders offer unsecured loan by checking previous loans, credit history or personal financial situation of borrower. Lenders normally set a limit of value of unsecured loans just because there is no securing assets or property. In this case, time period for repayment is not so long like other loans. Time period can be six months as well as ten years. Usually financial institutions like banks offer unsecured loans. It can be used for a luxurious holiday, a new car, a wedding ceremony and for home renovations. Lenders make a legal credit agreement that covers all terms and conditions of loan. It is the best option for tenants who are living in rented accommodation. Borrowers should consider certain points before applying for unsecured loan. They should keep in mind that unsecured loans are expensive and the repayment period is shorter. If the borrowers dont repay loan then lenders can claim via legal system only. Borrowers should take sufficient time before making final decision about unsecured loans because the rate of interest and other terms & conditions are different from lender to lender. 24 Tips To Help You Overcome The Side Effects Of Anti-Depressant Medication

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

By Jean Morgan Antidepressants are a wonderful answer to people who have major depression. New drugs have been developed that are safer and more effective. But even with the newer medications, you will probably experience some side effects when starting to take them. There are a few things that you can do to lessen the effects of the medication until your body can become adjusted. Nausea is one of the most common side effects and the most common reason why people stop taking antidepressants. The following tips can help you lesson the nausea: Drink plenty of fluids such as unsweetened fruit juice, cool water or ginger ale that has lost it’s carbonation. Do not drink ice water or hot beverages for nausea. Hot or cold liquids slow down the digestion system and may cause the nausea to last longer. Take your antidepressant with food. Try taking it with an anti acid or bismuth such as Pepto-Bismol. If available take a slow release form of the medication. Talk with your doctor about a dosage change if the nausea persists. Increased appetite and weight gain are common side effects. You may gain weight because of lack of physical activity, increased appetite or fluid retention. These tips can help you kept the weight gain under control. Eat healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables. Cut back on sweets and fast foods. Try to exercise at least 30 minutes a day. Exercise can release endorphins which is a natural mood enhancer. Seek the advice of a nutritionist or dietician. Talk to your doctor about switching medication. Fatigue and drowsiness are common, especially during the beginning phase until your body gets adjusted. Follow these tips to lessen the drowsiness. Take a brief nap during the day. Get some mild exercise during the day. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until the drowsiness passes. Take the medication one to two hours before bedtime. Dry mouth can also be a side effect of antidepressants. Some antidepressants block the action of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine which disrupts the functioning of the digestive tract and reduces saliva secretions. Here are a few things you can do to help with this: Sip water regularly or suck on ice chips Chew sugar less gum or suck on sugarless hard candy. Breathe through your nose and not your mouth. Brush your teeth twice a day. Avoid mouthwash with an alcohol base. This can dry your mucus membranes out even more. Talk to your doctor about saliva substitutes. Constipation is also associated with antidepressants because they block the action of the acetylcholine which in turn slows down the digestive tract. Strategies to cope with constipation are: Drink six to eight glasses of water a day. Eat high fiber foods such as vegetables and fruits, brans and whole grains. Get regular exercise. Take fiber supplements or stool softeners if other methods do not work. These side effects of antidepressant may be bothersome. But many only last a few weeks and then diminish or disappear altogether. Side effects are the most common reason why people stop taking their antidepressant. Talk to your doctor about any side effect you may be experiencing. Never stop taking your antidepressant without your doctor’s guidance. If you stop abruptly, you may experience withdrawal like health symptoms. Just be patient, implement the above tips and you will feel better in no time! How to Soak Your Pains Away with Epson Salts

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Livia Mercer I have long been a fan of Epsom salts as an affordable and easy beauty treatment. According to this website it’s not only myself that is singing Epsom salts praise. Fashion model Stephanie Seymour and domestic guru Martha Stewart are also big fans. Why? The website informs us that Magnesium is the second-most abundant element in human cells and the fourth-most important positively charged ion in the body. Magnesium, a major component of Epsom Salt, and is vital for many bodily functions, from muscle control and electrical impulses to energy production and the elimination of toxins. Raising the body’s level of seratonin, a mood-elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of well being and relaxation. * Offsetting excess levels of adrenaline generated by pressure and stress; magnesium ions relax and reduce irritability by lowering the affects of adrenaline. * Helping to regulate the electrical functions that spark through miles of nerves. * Lowering blood pressure. Researchers have found that magnesium also increases energy and stamina by encouraging the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy packets made in the cells. Experts recommend soaking with Epsom Salt at least three times a week to look better, feel better and have more energy. Magnesium can be taken internally or you can get the same benefits from soaking in a bath with magnesium sulfate crystals, commonly known as Epsom Salt. Researchers and physicians tell us that raising your magnesium levels may improve your heart and circulation and will lower blood pressure. It will help flush the toxins and heavy metals from the body. Most importantly it helps to reduce stress. Magnesium is necessary for the body to bind adequate amounts of serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of well being and relaxation. Researchers have found that magnesium also increases energy and stamina. So how do you use this wonderful product? There are several ways. For a relaxing soak: Add two cups of Epsom Salt to the water in a bathtub; soak for at least 12 minutes, three times weekly. For an extra treat, add a few drops of essential oil such as lavender, sandalwood, or patchouli. For a cleanser and exfoliant: Massage handfuls of Epsom Salt over your wet skin, starting with the feet and continuing up toward the face. Then, pour two cups into a bath of warm water. Lean back and relax. As you soak, the natural action of Epsom Salt helps soften the rough, dry patches of your skin. For a Spa treatment: After showering, massage handfuls of Epsom Salt over wet skin to exfoliate the body. It’s the same treatment many upscale spas use, without the upscale price! For a hair treatment: Combine 3 tablespoons of deep conditioner with 3 tablespoons of Epsom Salt. Microwave the mixture for 20 seconds. Work the warm mixture through your hair from scalp to ends and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Promotes body and life in your hair and restores curl to permed hair. So with this many benefits and uses, make sure you add Epsom Salts to your next shopping list. It is only a few dollars and you will be pleasantly surprised. Why You Should Consider An Antique Appraisal For Your Collection

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Angel Estrella Antiques are widely collected and, as such, are very valuable. Everything from glassware to paintings and even furniture, antiquities are the hobby of choice for many collectors. If you collect antiques of any kind, you will want them to be protected just as you would any other item in your household. This is one of the reasons why you may need an antique appraisal. When it comes to protecting your investment against theft, fire or other misfortune, you may need your antique appraisal to secure insurance for your prized antiques. Because collections are not always covered under a general home insurance policy, many individuals are unaware that they may need to purchase a separate rider policy if they are to protect their investment. A rider policy is simply a separate policy, which is added to your home insurance and protects the items covered in the event of a disaster. When insuring anything, including antiques, the insurance company will want to know the value of the items being covered. To that end, it is often necessary to get a professional antique appraisal of every item that you want included under the rider policy. This antique appraisal can be presented to the insurance agent, who will make a copy and return the original appraisal to you for your records. An antique appraisal, much like any other, will contain an image of the item(s) being valued, a description and a value for either each separate piece or the entire group as a whole. When seeking an antique appraisal, it is best to select a professional who has a lot of experience in the field of antiquities. Not just any experience, however, but experience in the field directly related to your items. For instance, you would not want a furniture expert to give you an antique appraisal on your glassware. Instead, you would put more reliance on an antique appraisal for glassware from an expert in that field. An antique appraisal can be expensive, which is why its important to shop around and compare prices from several different professionals. It is important to video your entire collection, as well as take your own photographs and write down descriptions of each item prior to handing your items over to an appraiser. If the unthinkable should ever happen and your collection becomes lost, damaged or stolen, you will be glad that you had an antique appraisal and applied the items to your homeowners insurance policy as a separate rider policy. In some instances, antiques and other collectibles may be covered under a general policy and may not actually require a rider policy, but this is best discussed with each individual insurance agency. Marketing - The One Marketeer

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

By Alan Fairweather I’m regularly asked to speak to people, that have eitherjust started a business or have been going for some time. Somany of these people are absolutely brilliant at working “intheir business” but not so good at working “on theirbusiness” In other words; they’re good at making the productor providing the service but they’re not so good at findingnew customers and generating more sales. Like them, you may not be too keen on making cold calls andselling your product or service but you DO need newcustomers and lots of them. You might be thinking - “I havecustomers and as long as I keep them happy things will beokay.” However, I hate to tell you - but no matter how goodyour product or your service is, you will lose customers. They’ll either leave the area; they’ll die, they’ll go outof business themselves or just decide to deal with somebodyelse. So you need to find new customers just to stand still. However that’s not why you’re reading this - you don’t wantto just stand still you want to find lots and lots ofcustomers. To do that - you’ve got to get in the rightmindset; you’ve got to think like a successful -”Marketeer.” You need to think about #1 -Your Target Market; who do youwant to do business with and what is the best way to makecontact with them. Think about your existing customers andthink about how and why they do business with you. #2 WhatProblems do your customers have; what challenges do theyface that could be solved by your product or service? #3What Solutions do you offer; how will your customers benefitfrom dealing with you? #4 How can you Prove what you do;what evidence, references testimonials can you produce toinfluence a prospective customer. #5 What is it that you dothat’s Different; what is your unique selling point thatdifferentiates you from other businesses. Every day you need to allocate time to marketing yourproduct or service. DO NOT fall into the trap of saying -”I’ll do it tomorrow, I’m too busy today.” Overall, you needto spend about 20% of your time on marketing. There are many failed businesses that had a fantasticproduct or service. However the majority fail because theydidn’t spend enough time marketing. That is not going tohappen to you because you are “The One Marketeer.” Discover how you can generate more business without havingto cold call!Alan Fairweather is the author of “How to get More Saleswithout Selling” This book is packed with practical thingsthat you can do to get customers to come to you . To Get The Most Out Of Speed Dating Follow These Tips

Friday, August 17th, 2007

By Gregg Hall Introduced in the 1990s, speed dating has become increasingly popular both through the United States and in other countries. Although it was first invented to help young Jewish singles meet other singles, this ritual still serves that purpose today. Clubs in major cities regularly host speed dating nights. An equal number of men and women are invited to a given location, and while women stay at their two person tables, the men have five to ten minutes to speak to each woman. When time is up, the man moves on to the next table until he has talked with every woman. At the conclusion of the evening, each person checks off if they are interested in meeting with anyone else further. If a man and woman each check off the other person, then the host will provide contact information for the matches. While fun, speed dating moves quickly, so a novice must come into the speed dating arena prepared. Speed daters have limited time, so make a good first impression. Take time that day to physically prepare yourself. Look your best, because the date is based on your first impression. Don’t set yourself up for mental rejection before you even open your mouth.. Go into the arena prepared. Take time to ask both engaging and open ended questions. Ask questions that would eliminate a potential match. For example, if you do not want to date a smoker, ask if your date smokes. Knowing what to ask ahead of time will ensure you are asking relevant questions. Arrive at your date on time. Not only will arriving late leave a bad impression, but you might lose your spot in the event. Have a good time at your event, and yet focus on finding a potential match. Remember your final objective when going into the speed dating arena, and you can accomplish this objective by answering questions honestly. Do not attempt to impress your date, but just be yourself. The more honest you are, the more likely you’ll be to find a good match. Giving answers your date just wants to hear will result in a match that won’t work out long term. After the event ends and you receive your match up, avoid waiting for contact. Because you and your date could have made several matches, the details of your date might be hazy. The sooner you contact your date, the more likely you’ll be able to remember the details. Even though you have met, remember that you only visited with the match for a few minutes. Exercise caution for your first post speed dating meeting. Meet in a well populated, public place, and consider who you contact carefully. While speed dating can lead to a potential long term match, it can also result fun and meeting many people. Remember these tips the next time you have the urge to get to know lots of people in one evening’s time, and you will have an excellent speed dating adventure.
